Joint Doctoral Conference with Manchester and UCL

A couple of weeks ago, PhD researchers from the Leeds Centre for Projects (LCP), together with their supervisors, took part in the third edition of the Joint Doctoral Conference, bringing together colleagues from the UCL Project Hub and the University of Manchester. This year, the event was hosted by the University of Manchester, who curated an engaging programme with ample opportunities for discussion, collaboration and networking.

The conference opened with a warm welcome from the hosts, Dr Jillian Yeow and Dr Richard Kirkham, followed by introductory remarks from Professor Callum Kidd. Their opening set the stage for a stimulating day of academic exchange.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr Francesco Di Maddaloni from UCL, who shared insights from his research on stakeholder management. His talk entitled “All projects are local: Benefits and challenges on re-imagining stakeholder inclusion” highlighted the complexities of engaging stakeholders in projects and offered valuable perspectives for doctoral researchers exploring this area.

A total of 11 LCP PhD researchers presented their work, showcasing the breadth and diversity of research across the centre:

  • Yuchen Guo: The Relationship between Collaboration and Digitalisation in Inter-organisational Projects
  • Danelly Gutierrez Ramirez: Fragmentation and Integration of Environmental Objectives in Construction Projects
  • Ghassan Al Farsi: Comprehensive Analysis of Construction Productivity Using a Systems Thinking Approach
  • Qinghao Wang: Understanding the Contribution of Leadership to the Navigation of Urgency in Inter-organisational Projects
  • Nancy Joof: Investigating the Role of Leadership Meaning-Making in Shaping Sustainability in UK Construction Projects
  • Elkana Catur Hardiansah: Temporal Misalignment in Megaprojects: Exploring the Influence of Electoral Cycles on Project Timelines
  • Xintian Yu: Exploring the Potential of Building Information Modelling (BIM) as an Enabler of Ethical Practice in Construction Projects Using a Socio-technical Systems Approach
  • Racheal Wesonga: A GIS-Based Method for Renewable Energy Prosumer Integration in Road Construction Compound Siting

The afternoon continued with further engaging and stimulating paper sessions. The conference concluded with closing remarks from the organisers and an awards presentation.
