LCP Flagship In Residence Event 2024

Date

We were delighted to host our first Flagship in Residence event this week. The In Residence event brings together the key actors in our knowledge ecosystem, i.e. academics, students, practitioners, postgraduate researchers, alumni and professional bodies to shape projects for sustainable futures. It was a day full of vibrant discussions, co-production and sharing of knowledge, networking and thinking differently!

Our Director Prof Christine Unterhitzenberger kicked off the day with a review of the last 12 month and first insights into the Sustainable Project Performance Index (SPPI) which has been co-created with practitioners and will be launched in September 2024.

Education

This was followed by a session focused on education led by our Programme Leaders Dr Luca Sabini and Dr William Collinge. They provided an overview of the two completely redesigned programmes MSc Engineering Project Management and MSc International Construction Management and Engineering. Then some of our Project Professionals in Residence shared their career journeys with our students and hosted mentoring round tables to support our students in the transition towards professional project and construction managers.

Research

To provide insights into the current research ongoing in the LCP, Dr Dicle Kortantamer organised research cafés. Three rounds of 20 minute discussions facilitated knowledge exchange and generation of ideas. The following themes were covered:

  • Project leadership for sustainability by Dr Dicle Kortantamer
  • Knowledge sharing and learning from experience in projects by Dr Mohammed Abdelmegid
  • Governance for sustainable project management by Prof Christine Unterhitzenberger
  • AI in PM: The use of machine learning to predict project performance by Yixue Shen

Engagement

Prof Christine Unterhitzenberger and Dr Rodrigo Juarez invited University colleagues to share collaboration opportunities through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) and Impact Accelerator Accounts (IAA). This was followed by a discussion on development needs and the introduction of the soon to be launched short course on Project Leadership for Sustainable Futures.

The day was concluded with a networking reception. We would like to thank everyone who attended the event for their contribution in creating such a wonderful community.
