LCP Flagship in Residence Event 2025

The annual LCP Flagship in Residence Event is the highlight of our calendar and brings to live the three dimensions of our knowledge ecosystem: education, research and engagement. This year, we had over 50 participants from industry, government, professional bodies as well as MSc students, PhD researchers and academics come together under the theme "Think Differently".

Our Director Prof Christine Unterhitzenberger kicked off the day with a reflection on the activities of the LCP over the last 12 months and a contextualisation of "Think Differently". The past 12 months have been marked by many achievements ranging from the APM Recognised Assessment accreditation of our MSc in Engineering Project Management to Dr Dicle Kortantamer being appointed as Associate Editor for the journal Project Leadership and Society to awards for our PhD researchers to name a few. "Think Differently" is built on what is (or should be) regarded as appropriate knowledge about the social world and also about our profession. Critically questioning and exploring what constitutes acceptable, valid and legitimate knowledge and how we can communicate it to others helps us understand how and what we think and then enables us to think differently.

The education session was hosted by Dr William Collinge and Dr Rodrigo Juarez. Two teams of MSc students - one from Engineering Project Management (EPM) and one from International Construction Management and Engineering (ICME) - shared their learnings and key take aways from their studies over the past ten months. The two very engaging presentations demonstrated the growth and development of the students and led to interesting discussions. Following that, the students had the opportunity to be mentored by industry leaders through mentoring round tables.

The research session was hosted by Dr Dicle Kortantamer and Dr Alex Torku who invited our PhD researchers to do poster presentations and share their research with industry. The focus was on learning to communicate with different audiences and getting receiving feedback on the research problem and potential impact of the research. This was followed by research cafés hosted by Dr Kate Lawrence (Will we never learn?), Dr Yixue Shen (AI in the workplace), Dr Alex Torku (Ageing Intervention Developments) and Professor Christine Unterhitzenberger (Communication in projects). The research cafés provided an open space to think differently about the proposed topics and explore new avenues through co-creation.

The engagement session was hosted by Dr Yixue Shen and Prof Christine Unterhitzenberger. It was facilitated by the play expert and futurist Yesim Kunter and encouraged participants to think differently about what sustainable futures means and how we need to shape projects to achieve this through an interactive avatar building session. We made full use of the wonderful venue and weather and moved this session outside!

We concluded the day with a networking session to connect academia and industry further. Thank you everyone who joined us for another exciting and insightful In Residence event! If you are interested in becoming involved with the LCP please feel free to get in touch with our Director Professor Christine Unterhitzenberger ([email protected]).
