Team of MSc ICME students win the Accuracy Construction Championship 2024

Date
Daniel Merriman, Madhur Chugh and Mauricio Cusimayta Gonzales, postgraduate students on our MSc International Construction Management and Engineering, formed a team to compete in the inaugural Accuracy Construction Championship against 30 other groups from leading UK Universities.
The team submitted a detailed proposal for the restart of the Crossrail 2 megaproject to a panel comprising industry experts, a former CEO of a leading construction company and a HM treasury representative. The presentation covered a project overview, stakeholder analysis, timeline and legal viability, risk evaluation, a comparison with three other UK megaprojects and proposed recommendations. Over two weeks, the trio collaborated closely, enhancing their teamwork, sharing knowledge and perfecting their presentation skills with some feedback by Dr Christine Unterhitzenberger during the preparation period. They successfully advanced to the final round, placing among the top three.
During the final round, all participating teams and their mentors, who assisted in rehearsing the presentations, were introduced to one another. Each team had about 10 minutes to present, followed by a 30-minute Q and A session with the jury. Our team effectively defended their proposal, offering comprehensive solutions to potential project failures and risk mitigation strategies. Ultimately, their exceptional presentation skills, confident delivery and robust defense of their proposals led to them being named the winners of the inaugural Accuracy Construction Championship.
Congratulations Daniel, Madhur and Mauricio - well done!
